Harrisburg, PA Community & Real Estate Information

Harrisburg is the capital of Pennsylvania and its 9th largest city. It is the county seat for Dauphin County and lies on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. The city has played a notable role in history during the Westward Migration, the Civil War, and the Industrial Revolution. Construction of the Pennsylvania Canal and Pennsylvania Railroad, during the 19th century, has allowed it to become one of the most industrialized cities in the Northeastern United States. In the mid-to-late 20th century, the economic fortunes fluctuated, with its major industries consisting of government, heavy manufacturing (steel production), agriculture (heart of the fertile PA Dutch Country), and food services (Hershey Chocolate, only 10 miles to the east).

The Pennsylvania Farm Show, the largest free indoor agriculture expo in the U.S., was first held here in 1917 and has been held here every year since then (mid-January). The Arena also hosts an annual outdoor sports show, an auto show (new and classic cars), and many other events, making it renowned nationwide!

This area is also home to the National Civil War Museum, Pennsylvania State Museum, City Island, Fort Hunter Mansion, Whitaker Center, and the Wildwood Park & Nature Center. There is something for everyone!
